Research Associate

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of Professor George Demopoulos, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to join our team at the HydroMET Lab in the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering. The successful candidate will focus on the development of hybrid ceramic-polymer electrolytes and electrode materials for all-solid-state batteries. The successful candidate will support both fundamental investigations and applied research efforts, with a focus on commercialization and partnership development under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD in Materials Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of research experience in battery materials, solid-state ionics, or related areas.
• Strong knowledge of both fundamental and applied aspects of battery research.
• Excellent communication and public relations skills, with experience engaging external partners and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

The tasks of this position include but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct validation tests on porous garnet electrolytes developed in the HydroMET Lab, including their functionalization with conducting polymers.
• Assemble hybrid electrolyte cells using lithium metal or titanium niobium oxide (TNO) anodes and various cathode materials;
• Evaluate electrochemical performance using advanced characterization techniques.
• Develop and plan a partnership program with external organizations to explore commercialization opportunities for existing and emerging intellectual property.
• Analyze and interpret data to support research objectives and provide actionable insights.
• Document procedures, methodologies, and results in technical reports, publications, and conference and workshop presentations.
• Write draft applications for research grants and fellowships.
• Contribute to the drafting of peer-reviewed publications
