DEPARTMENT

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Mental Health Social Care Research Centre in the School for Business and Society, a friendly and supportive research group undertaking studies around the social experiences of mental health. We are looking for a skilled and versatile Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on two studies: (1) a feasibility trial of a skills-enhancing programme for carers of people presenting with complex emotional needs and chronic emotion dysregulation (0.5 FTE) and (2) the development and validation of a screening tool for social frailty in older people (0.3 FTE).

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION NEEDED

The main qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience essential to this post are:

  • A PhD in a social science or mental health subject or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of both trial methodologies and qualitative research
  • Knowledge of the needs of mental health carers and/or older people
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Ability to write up research work for publication
  • Experience of working with mental health carers and/or older people
  • Experience of working on a randomised controlled trial or similar quasi-experimental study in the NHS
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality

Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the job are to conduct research under the supervision of senior colleagues. Specifically, this will involve:

  • Undertaking and overseeing participant recruitment and data collection
  • Managing databases
  • Undertaking qualitative semi-structured interviews and analysis
  • Undertaking structured interviews and data entry
  • Ensuring study processes and protocols are followed within sites
  • Co-ordinate study meetings
  • Prepare interim and final reports
