Description

Centre for Advanced Robotics Technology Innovation (CARTIN) are hiring a Research Associate to develop advanced 3D mapping and semantic scene understanding for fire-response robots. The Research Associate will work with 4D radar, thermal, and odometry data to build spatial maps and extract meaningful information (e.g., trapped person detection, fire hazard analysis). Strong experience in 3D mapping, object detection, and multi-sensor AI perception is required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master in Robotics, Computer Vision, or a related field.
  • Experience in 3D mapping, SLAM, and multi-sensor fusion.
  • Strong background in scene understanding techniques (e.g., object detection, semantic segmentation, 3D perception).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and generative models (e.g., diffusion, VLMs) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with ROS2, PCL/Open3D, and real-time deployment.
We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
    Hiring Institution: NT
Responsibilities
  • Develop real-time 3D mapping solutions by fusing data from radar, thermal, and odometry sources.
  • Design and implement scene understanding algorithms (e.g., object detection, semantic segmentation) for fire-response environments.
  • Integrate generative AI models to infer fire dynamics, structural layout, or human presence in degraded visual conditions.
  • Create and maintain real-time visualization and logging tools for both geometric and semantic maps.
  • Collaborate with hardware, SLAM, and embedded teams for field deployment and system integration.
