JOB SUMMARY

This position provides administrative and technical oversight for a research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include ensuring research protocols are followed and met; safety guidelines are followed in accordance with institution and government regulations; management of laboratory resources; providing teaching and technical oversight to students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians; processing of data, present findings and assist Principal Investigator (PI) with current and future research applications and programs of study. Performs blood sampling; blood pressure studies; and data acquisition, analyses and tabulation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years’ research and/or clinical experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience handling small animal models such as rodents.
Experience performing animal telemetry surgeries.
Knowledge of diseases of the lung with a focus on acute lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis and the role of mechanobiology is ideal.

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions.

Responsibilities:

THE DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

LAB MANAGEMENT: Coordinates research activities in the lab, instructs research staff and students, and advises regarding research techniques. Coordinates telemetry studies for other faculty and labs.
ANIMAL MANAGEMENT: Coordinates administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintains records related to use. Performs animal surgeries.
EXPERIMENTS: Performs complex data analysis related to producing research results and preparing findings for future development and develops new studies in coordination with the PI.
FISCAL MANAGEMENT: Participates in the tracking and monitoring of budgetary resources to ensure effective lab operations.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE: Uses independent judgement in the daily operation of the lab to ensure safe and efficient use of resources. Monitors use of resources to ensure compliance with Federal guidelines and institutional protocols.
GRANT DEVELOPMENT: Assists PI with data preparation for grant applications and renewals. Participates actively in the composition, editing and publication of research findings.
OTHER: Performs other duties incidental to work described herein.
