Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

HIST_PROP is a four-year project funded by the Luxembourg Chamber of Employees to support the extraction and analysis of land and property ownership data in Luxembourg for the 1824 to 1938 period. These historical archives, digitised and made available by the Luxembourg Land Registry, have already been analysed for the city of Dudelange and for Luxembourg City.
The aim of this project is to scale up these analyses for the whole country, in order to see if the patterns identified in Dudelange and Luxembourg (extreme landownership concentration, intergenerational transmission of land and property, production of an artificial land scarcity) also apply to the rest of the country. The project also aims to cross property ownership information with other sources, such as genealogical records, to identify the transmission of inequalities over time in a subset of cities.

Responsibilities

In this context, the successful candidate will have the following missions:

  • To support the extraction of the Land Registry archives ;
  • To undertake analyses on historical land and property ownership inequalities ;
  • To cross property ownership information with other sources, such as genealogical records, to assess the intergenerational transmission of inequalities ;
  • To conduct independent research at LISER, with the possibility of applying for external project funding, as well as to contribute to the intellectual life of the institute.
