Hiring Unit:

Position Summary:

Provide leadership in the research activities and organisation of the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Transient Astrophysics

  • Conceptualise and supervise research projects
  • Explore discovery space for fast radio bursts, pulsars, and other radio transients
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students
  • Organise research group activities
  • Aid in bookkeeping and reporting of the group’s activities
  • Participate in research and infrastructure funding acquisition
  • Conceptualize and develop novel data analysis methods
  • Conceptualize novel observational modes for existing and upcoming observatories
  • Take an active role in national and international collaborations

Qualifications:

  • Explore and analyse survey data
  • Link radio observations to observations at other wavelengths
  • Coordinate professional staff
  • Report on research activities to funders and public
  • Publish research articles in reputable scientific journals
  • Present developments and results at national and international conferences
  • Can conduct research in astrophysics at an internationally recognised level (publishing in refereed journals)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the science and techniques of astronomy & astrophysics
  • Demonstrated ability to write well documented code for analysis of astrophysics data

Education/Experience:

  • PhD required
  • Graduate and post-doctoral experience in research in astrophysics
  • Experience leading research and technical projects to completion
  • Experience supervising students and other trainees

Location: This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.
