THE ROLE

This open-ended position (with funding confirmed for 12 months in the first instance) is based within the Bristol Cyber Security Group, led by Professor Awais Rashid at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will join a major international Programme of research providing a comprehensive cyber security body of knowledge (CyBOK) that underpins curricula at various education levels.
We are looking for a candidate to undertake research on CyBOK’s relationship with other educational and professional frameworks in the field and, based on this research, develop further guidance on its usage by higher education institutions and practitioners. The post holder will work closely with existing cyber security education and professional training programmes to support their transition to utilising CyBOK as the basis as well as supporting the continuing usage of CyBOK as the basis for the Certified Degree programmes by the National Cyber Security Centre. The post holder will collaborate with the CyBOK project team as well as the wider cyber security community, both in academia and industry.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Undertake research on cyber security education and training programmes, including their mapping to CyBOK and the role of CyBOK in professionalisation of cyber security.
  • Work closely with existing cyber security education and professional training programmes to support their transition to utilising CyBOK as the basis.
  • Develop and utilise case studies and exemplar tools for the representation of the CyBOK knowledge areas to demonstrate coverage within existing education and professional training programmes at different levels.
  • Support the usage – including additional research and mapping – of CyBOK as the basis of NCSC certification of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
  • Prepare written progress reports and project deliverables.
  • Prepare conference and journal papers for publication of project findings.
  • Participate in relevant project meetings, prepare and present talks, posters and reports to disseminate the results of the research.
  • Participate in national and international conferences and workshops to present the results of the project to a wider audience and to learn about current advances in the field.
  • Collaborate with project partners on relevant aspects of the research programme.
  • Participate in activities to achieve engagement with research and/or impact beyond academia, where required.
