The ASCEND Lab is dedicated to advancing research in schizophrenia, with a primary focus on Cognitive Enhancement Therapy (CET), an evidence-based intervention aimed at improving cognitive functioning in individuals with schizophrenia. The Research Associate Sr. will play a vital role in supporting multiple schizophrenia research projects, including clinical trials involving CET. This position involves hands-on work with patient recruitment and screening, clinical and diagnostic interviewing, data management, and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of ongoing studies. This position is grant funded. Responsibilities: Recruit participants into existing studies Conduct clinical assessments for studies of patients with schizophrenia Screen potential participants including phone screens, consents, and eligibility testing. Conduct Clinical or research-designed therapy with patients Conduct psychiatric telephone screen evaluations with potentially eligible subjects as needed. Conduct psychiatric evaluations and structured psychiatric interviews needed to make psychiatric diagnosis. Diagnose and coordinate appropriate dispositions for potential subjects for research studies. Conduct informed consent procedures for subjects entering study protocols. Present findings of clinical assessments to supervising clinicians. Use clinical judgment as needed when research subjects need referrals. Ability to assess potential emergencies with collaboration with senior personnel, take appropriate action. Complete documentation related to research assessments, treatment plans, session notes and transfer summaries for patients. Travel to clinical settings in Pittsburgh area as needed to recruit, assess, and treat subjects in study protocols. Attend and actively participate in weekly therapist supervision meetings. Work as part of interdisciplinary treatment team to maintain protocol standards and ensure patient safety. Responsible for the submission of regular reports detailing the progress of the research. Initiate research participant recruitment efforts and share responsibility of overseeing accurate data collection. Assist with preparation of scientific articles as needed. Attend weekly supervision with senior clinicians. Perform other duties as related to the research project as requested by the Principal Investigator, coordinator, and/or supervisor. Master's Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field and 1 year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting OR Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field and 3 years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting. Familiarity with computers and common software packages required. Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
