Description Position Title: Research Associate V Position start date: ASAP Status: Part time benefits eligible Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, variable hours Service/Division: Research – Infectious Disease Work Location: Stein Building UCSD Job Code: ML 1398 Salary: $40.00 – $45.00 per hour Summary: The Research Associate will plan, perform and troubleshoot laboratory experiments involving molecular and cellular biology methods, maintaining detailed records of their protocols and results. They will analyze, interpret and present their data and collaborate with other investigators in the lab to write manuscripts and grant applications. Occasionally they will perform shared duties to support the lab, including restocking common supplies, logging deliveries of reagents and ensuring cell culture Duties and Responsibilities: · Plan and conduct experiments involving standard cell biology and molecular virology methods, including PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, luciferase assays, ELISA, cloning and plasmid preparation, and cell culture including transfection and infection with HIV-1 and lentiviral vectors. · Keep detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures and results. · Troubleshoot methods and collaborate with other researchers to achieve research study aims. · Participate in lab meetings and research meetings with collaborators and colleagues. · Analyze and interpret data, and prepare results for presentation at regular lab meetings and scientific conferences. · Attend all required training sessions (e.g., lab safety modules) and adhere to due dates for refresher training. · Maintain a collegial relationship with lab members and collaborators. · May have the opportunity to participate in training of rotation students and new lab members as appropriate. · Monitor for and report any unsafe laboratory conditions including equipment that is not in compliance with safety standards. · Assist in the performance of shared laboratory maintenance duties when necessary, including restocking common supplies, making shared lab solutions, logging deliveries of reagents and ensuring cell culture incubators have adequate water and CO2. Requirements Masters’s degree (MA/MS) in a related field from an accredited college or university AND at least 3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
