ABOUT US

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) at Western University is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about media, communications, and information. We study technologies, systems, histories, and practices to understand the role of media and information in democratic processes and the social and cultural determinants of power and agency. Across our programs, we foster two key capacities in all of our research: to think critically about the world in which we live, and the skill and confidence to make interventions in our communities and lifeworld.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; PhD in Media Studies is preferre

Experience:

  • 3 years’ working experience in a related academic research environment with Master’s degree or 1 year of related experience with PhD degree
  • facilitation of focus groups and analysis of focus group results; content analysis of websites; analysis of policies pertaining to privacy, review and summary of relevant literatiur

Preferred Experience:

  • grant development, completion of ethics and application

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant scientific/research principles
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one’s own unit
  • Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users, and to complete detailed analytics and reports
  • Advanced skills in software and applications used to produce and analyze research outcomes
  • Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are require
Responsibilities

The Research Associate will support research pertaining to the use of AI in education and the impact of AI-generated material on decisions and decision making. The incumbent will identify and summarize relevant literature, assist in the identification of research questions and the design of research, prepare and manage ethics submissions, support the collection and analysis of data, and participate in dissemination activities including preparation of manuscripts and presentations at conferences and workshops. The Research Associate will be responsible for the development of research questions and designs, in collaboration with their supervisor.
