The Institute for Algorithms and Complexity is a research institute of the TUHH - Technical University of Hamburg. It develops efficient methods for solving important computational problems in economics, engineering, and social sciences. It offers students comprehensive training in theoretical computer science. The institute consists of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that is involved in various national and international scientific collaborations.
The institute is located in the newly built , which is located right at the Harburg harbour with great views of the harbour and Hamburg’s famous opera house (Elbphilharmonie). Several other computer science institutes of the TU Hamburg are located in the area, as well as DASHH - Data Science in Hamburg, the Helmholtz Graduate School for the Structure of Matter, and the German Air and Space Research Center (DLR). They are all located in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which is Germany’s second largest city, home to a population of about 1.8 million people. It is a famous city of entertainment, trade and commerce, with several universities and much research in algorithms.

Responsibilities
  • research on algorithm design, analysis and engineering for combinatorial optimization problems
  • publishing research results at relevant computer science / mathematics conferences and their presentation, and publications in high-impact journals
  • modeling of real-life optimization problems and their solution in collaboration with academic and industrial partners
  • commitment to learning and knowledge sharing tasks at the Institute for Algorithms and Complexity
  • assistance with teaching duties
