Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Research Computing Specialist to join Te Kura Mātai Pūkaha, Pūrorohiko - School of Engineering and Computer Science on a permanent, full-time basis. Key responsibilities: Responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments and infrastructure. Provide expertise and advice for the University on HPC services, including support for infrastructure, applications, and research workflows. Work collaboratively with researchers, students, and research groups to enable them to use HPC and develop associated research capabilities. Provide oversight and expertise into research technology projects, architectures, standards, policies, and procedures. Ō pūmanawa - About you You will: Be a motivated, highly technical professional with an interest in research. Have excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. Have the ability to apply your skills across many context and research scenarios. Key requirements: Proven experience in a DevOps environment, and knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, and/or Chef. An interest in applications and infrastructure that enable research in data science, artificial intelligence, and digital humanities. Proven experience in managing HPC environments, especially scheduling environments such as Slurm. In-depth functional and technical knowledge of research technology and methodologies. Experience building and compiling scientific software stacks. Experience using GPUs for computational tasks, such as pytorch, tensorflow. Applied experience in using the Linux shell.
