POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the ALES Research Labs Manager, the position provide administrative, technical and professional expertise to manage the activities of the Human Nutrition Research Unit (HNRU) and support research and teaching programs in the area of human nutrition in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences. The HNRU research coordinator works closely with the HNRU Director and is responsible for all clinical studies and nutrition-related activities in the HNRU in collaboration with the Clinical Research Unit (CRU).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.Sc. in Nutrition or similar post-graduate training required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in clinical nutrition research

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Dietitian preferred
  • Training in Biohazard procedures is preferred but is available on-site
  • First Aid training is preferred but is available on-site
  • CPR training preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of research experience, and laboratory experience preferred

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and monitors use of all nutrition facilities and equipment within the Human Nutrition Research Unit ((HNRU) and Clinical Research Unit (CRU), including, developing and implementing policies and procedures; handling financial management of the nutrition services in the HNRU and completing monthly billings.
  • Schedule use of HNRU/CRU nutrition facilities and equipment for research projects, courses and public services, monitors proper use, equipment performance, and coordinates regular repairs/maintenance. Communicates and schedules public services clients.
  • Monitors nutrition laboratories for appropriate biosafety procedures and risk assessment, available for afterhours emergency response. Maintains HNRU kitchen facilities and procedures in compliance with AHS Food Handling Permit.
  • Provides general and individual HNRU orientation to graduate and summer students and research staff of basic unit operations, facilities, safety and working alone protocol, and emergency procedures.
  • Provides equipment-specific Training, including operating equipment and data interpretation. These include Metabolic Carts, Q-NRG calorimeter, Whole Body Calorimetry Unit, Anthropometry, DXA scanner, BodPod for body composition, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), Ultrasound, and Total Body Potassium Counter
  • Acts as a preceptor to Dietetic Interns, food service and management rotations with a focus on human nutrition trials and clinical research.
  • Provides research support for dietary assessments for research studies and offers Registered Dietitian services for specific studies.
  • Provides relevant information on HNRU facilities, protocols and equipment to support grant proposals, including equipment grants, ethics applications, reports, and scientific articles.
