Description

The California Department of Fish & Wildlife is recruiting for a Research Data Specialist I (GIS) position within the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) unit. OSPR is a 24/7 emergency response organization addressing oil spills to the waters in California. The GIS team plays a critical role in supporting field response teams as well as the Preparedness and Prevention Branches. In addition to traditional mapping and figure production, OSPR’s GIS team supports field data collection (custom field applications, remotes sensing [e.g., UAS]), and data analysis and presentation. Under the general guidance of the GIS Supervisor, the RDS I position will prepare maps and figures ensuring cartographic quality, conduct spatial analysis with an emphasis on supporting response operations, conduct database and data management, process results from field data collection apps, and support the development of new GIS applications. The position also supports industry spill drills and exercises, and emergency response to marine and inland petroleum pollution incidents including limited field deployment during emergency response. The incumbent will represent the Department at meetings and create work products for inclusion in program documentation and reports.
