Description:
The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.
Successful candidates will join the Molecular & Functional Neurobiology group, led by Prof. Anne Grünewald, which studies the genetic and non-genetic causes of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease. Specifically, the group explores the contribution of intra- and intercellular mitochondrial signaling to these processes. For more information, please visit our website.
The R&D specialist will support the implementation of various projects, including “MITO-MANIAK” and “RareCom”, which explore the metabolic dependencies of neurons and glia in Parkinson’s disease and related disorders.
Responsibilities:
- Generation/maintenance of induced pluripotent stem cells and subsequent differentiation into neurons, microglia and astrocytes
- Study of cellular intermediary metabolism (LC- and GC-based methods)
- Assessment of cellular and mitochondrial function using advanced imaging techniques and molecular biology methods (including RNA-seq)
- Data analysis, data interpretation and reporting of results
- Participate in knowledge dissemination activities through the preparation of scientific publications or presentations in scientific venues
- Participate in funding applications (support hypothesis generation, conception, and grant writing)
- Participate in teaching activities (seminars and practicals)
- Support and tutoring of activity of students
For further information, please contact Prof. A. Grünewald at anne.gruenewald@uni.lu. Use the job title and reference number mentioned above in the subject line of your email.
