Description

Reporting to the Agronomy Manager, the Research Farm Technician will be responsible for upkeep, maintenance, crop pesticide and fertilizer applications, and to assist in planting and harvesting of research plots.

  • Perform irrigation, fertilizer, and crop protection applications as determined by the Agronomy Manager.
  • Tend to general maintenance and upkeep for the Research Center, including mowing and weed removal around the property.
  • Maintain Company standards for appearance of the property.
  • Farm equipment maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Provide assistance with seed preparation and planting/harvesting include operating tractors, planters and harvesters.
  • Experience working on a farm and operating farm equipment
  • Knowledge of fertilizer and chemical applications, tank mixing, and application equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and partners.
  • Experience in assisting with research plots desired.
  • Strong organizational and motivational skills, accurate record keeping, and attention to detail.
  • Competent in troubleshooting farm and small plot research equipment and resources.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Must be able top work flexible hours as required by conditions and crop needs.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license required.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in routine to achieve objectives.
  • Familiarity with general utility software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data entry.
  • Position will be located at Cavendish Research Site near Tappen, ND.
  • High comfort level with ambiguous situations and working in a time sensitive environment.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to work in high temperature and humidity conditions periodically throughout the growing season.
  • Position will require local travel as needed.
