BACKGROUND

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a significant problem for the NHS due to increased treatment costs and resource use. The ROSSINI platform trial is aimed at assessing interventions aimed at reducing SSIs taking type of surgery into account. There are also unanswered methodological questions with respect to how we should conduct economic analysis alongside platform trials. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Grade 7 Researcher to join our multidisciplinary team conducting health economic evaluations within the ROSSINI platform trial setting.

Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

You will work alongside clinical trialists, statisticians, surgeons and other health economists on the ROSINNI platform trial aimed at assessing the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of interventions for the reduction of SSIs and also explore methodological questions with respect to the economic analysis of platform trials.

MAIN DUTIES

  • To review and critically appraise relevant economic literature
  • To identify and collect appropriate resource utilisation data and identify appropriate costs
  • To extract relevant data from published economic studies. Such data is likely to include costs, outcomes, assumptions and other parameters
  • To estimate costs and conduct an economic evaluation (both model and trial-based)
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with assistance of a mentor if required
  • Analyse and interpret data
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
  • Undertake management/administration arising from research
  • To attend relevant project meetings with colleagues
  • Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
  • To a limited degree, to support the HEU teaching programme, particularly in relation to the Masters programme in Health Economics and Health Policy/Econometrics
  • To support any other appropriate activities that will help to achieve the objectives of the Health Economics Unit
