Full time fixed term until 31 December 2026 Research fellow role supporting “Quality coaching to implement a hospital fall prevention strategy” Base Salary $127,436 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Institute for Musculoskeletal Health is part of the University of Sydney's School of Public Health and Sydney Musculoskeletal Health flagship centre and is based at the Sydney Local Health District. Our focus is the promotion of musculoskeletal health and safe physical activity across the lifespan. Our vision is for better musculoskeletal health through healthy lifestyles and equitable access to patient-centred, evidence-based, and cost-effective health services. We have active collaborations with a wide range of multidisciplinary clinicians, researchers, and policy makers in Australia and internationally. Our research is divided into three main themes: back pain and musculoskeletal conditions; physical activity, ageing and disability; and evidence and equity. We are seeking a Research Fellow to support Professor Cathie Sherrington on the project “Quality coaching to implement a hospital fall prevention strategy”. The incumbent will contribute to research addressing the significant issue of hospital falls with an evidence based focus. Your key responsibilities will be to: conduct original research independently or as part of a team, focusing on publication, conference presentations, and securing research funding engage in research aligned with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (ACSQHC), addressing the need for improved evidence to guide hospital fall‑prevention activities support data analysis for the project’s stepped wedge trial that simultaneously evaluates effectiveness (reduction in falls) and implementation outcomes (reach, adoption, fidelity and sustainability) collaborate with health care managers and clinicians across two health districts, three university partners, and the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission to integrate research evidence into real-world service delivery and health policy contribute to applications for competitive research grants or funding to deliver research impact maintain quality, standards and excellence in research activities and output maintain a research profile, including publication of book chapters, peer‑reviewed journal articles, and conference and/or seminar papers provide informal mentoring and guidance to lower‑level academics and supervise postgraduate research students or projects where appropriate carry out administrative tasks and contribute to faculty/school meetings contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled understand and contribute to furthering the University and faculty/school strategic agenda contribute expertise and knowledge through communication of scholarship with industry, forums of public debate, organisation of public events, seminars and conferences undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required. About You a completed PhD with focus on physiotherapy, ageing, falls prevention, implementation science or musculoskeletal health demonstrated research experience in physiotherapy, ageing, falls prevention, implementation science or musculoskeletal health clinical experience in physiotherapy interventions to CALD populations across community and aged care settings. strong experience in biostatistics and data analysis focused on applying large datasets and novel and advanced statistical models in physiotherapy intervention research experience contributing to international evidence synthesis, including WHO‑commissioned policy reports, and research informing Australian government decision‑making demonstrated skills in mentoring and supervision, including co‑supervision of Higher Degree by Research students and postgraduate research projects, including work involving machine learning and AI applications experience securing competitive funding and awards strong engagement skills demonstrated through community outreach, health communication, media interviews, and contributions to large international audiences across print, broadcast, and digital platforms ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across health districts, universities and government agencies, particularly in research translation, health system improvement and fall‑prevention policy demonstrated leadership in national and international research collaborations Sponsorship / work rights for Australia You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply.
