JOB SUMMARY

The laboratory of Dr. Brian Emmer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The primary focus of the Emmer Lab is to apply modern functional genomic tools to discover novel regulators of pathways relevant to heart and lung disease. Among the methods used are high-throughput CRISPR screening, protein deep mutational scanning, massively parallel reporter assays, and genetic manipulation of cell lines and mice. The successful candidate will take a leading role, working closely with Dr. Emmer and in collaboration with other team members. The PI is firmly committed to supporting the professional development of the postdoctoral research fellow and his or her subsequent transition to an academic position or industry.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Wet lab experience with a PhD in a field related to life sciences, or with an MD and an appropriate skill set.
  • High level of motivation and work ethic.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Experience with massively parallel sequencing is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with genome editing is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with laboratory mice is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments in conjunction with the PI.
  • Think creatively about research projects to help shape the long-term direction of the lab?s research program.
  • Work cooperatively with other members of the lab and assist in training personnel as needed for specific methodologies.
  • Prepare manuscripts and oral presentations for dissemination of research findings.
