Fixed Term, full-time position (18 months) Level B: $122,478 - $141,446 + 17% superannuation The University of Wollongong (UOW) is a leading Australian institution recognised for excellence in research, teaching and industry engagement. UOW is the lead organisation of the ARC Research Hub for Australian Steel Innovation (Steel Research Hub, SRH), a five-year, $28 million initiative supporting the transition of Australia’s steel manufacturing industry towards a more sustainable, competitive and resilient future. About the Role We are seeking a Research Fellow to join Program 1: Process Integration and Sustainability within the Steel Research Hub. The successful candidate will work on Project 1.2.1 – By-Products Utilisation, conducting applied research related to iron and steel processing, with a specific focus on steel plant by-products. This role will involve close collaboration with BlueScope’s Port Kembla Steelworks, providing a strong industry-facing research environment, as well as engagement with academic collaborators across the national Steel Research Hub. The Research Fellow will: Plan and conduct experimental and applied research related to iron and steel processing and by-products utilisation Undertake data analysis, interpretation and reporting of research outcomes Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of higher degree and undergraduate students Prepare technical reports for industry partners and funding bodies Publish research outcomes in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals Communicate research findings to industry and academic audiences Collaborate effectively with researchers across UOW and partner institutions About You You will have: A PhD (or near completion) in metallurgical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering or a closely related discipline Demonstrated research experience in iron and steelmaking, materials processing or related fields Strong experimental and analytical skills An emerging or established publication record Excellent written and verbal communication skills The ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary, industry-engaged research teams Position Description How to Apply Applicants are asked to submit a CV and a cover letter (maximum three pages) outlining how your skills and experience address the selection criteria in the position description.
