Full Time 6-month opportunity for a dedicated Research focused academic providing much needed research in the discipline of Youth Mental Health Base Salary $113,400 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity We are seeking a motivated Research Focused Academic in youth mental health to join our team at the University of Sydney. In this role, you will apply and deepen your research expertise to advance the Faculty or School’s strategic agenda in the critical area of child and adolescent mental health. You will contribute to innovative research that aims to improve mental health outcomes for young people, working both independently and as part of a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary research team. This role provides an exciting opportunity to engage in impactful work addressing the mental health needs of children and young people, including early intervention, lived experience‑informed practice, service innovation, and wellbeing across developmental stages. The position is ideal for an emerging researcher seeking to build a strong academic profile, expand their research capabilities, and contribute to meaningful change within a supportive, dynamic and intellectually rich environment. Your key responsibilities will be to: a developing network of academic, professional or industry partners a developing research profile within your discipline or area of expertise demonstrated understanding of the subject matter within your discipline experience conducting original research and/or participating in scholarly activity. About you strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain sensitive or complex youth mental health concepts clearly and respectfully to diverse audiences, including young people, families, clinicians, service partners, and academic colleagues effective presentation skills, demonstrated through engaging, developmentally appropriate presentations that communicate research findings to academic forums as well as youth‑focused, community, or sector‑specific audiences research capability and analytical skills, including experience or interest in designing and conducting high‑quality research involving children, adolescents or young adults, and the ability to analyse and interpret data related to mental health, wellbeing, service use, or developmental outcomes planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage the practical and ethical considerations of youth mental health research, coordinate project activities, work with partner organisations, and ensure tasks are completed to timeline and quality standards computer literacy, including proficiency with research‑relevant digital tools, data management systems, and communication platforms commonly used in youth mental health projects, as well as the ability to adopt new technologies that support research efficiency and engagement ability to provide excellent internal and external service, demonstrating professionalism, empathy and responsiveness when working with young people, families, clinicians, educators, researchers and community partners, and contributing to strong, collaborative working relationships.
