Join us and be part of a mission-driven, independent publisher. You’ll work with a diverse group of people who share a passion for empowering researchers, educators, and institutions to shape the future.
About Sage:
Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.
Our guaranteed independence means we’re free to:
-
- Do more – supporting an equitable academic future, furthering disciplines that drive social change, and helping social and behavioural science make an impact.
-
- Work together – building lasting relationships, championing diverse perspectives, and co-creating resources to transform teaching and learning.
-
- Think long-term – experimenting, taking risks, and investing in new ideas.
About our Team:
The Sage Research Integrity team is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical publishing across Sage’s journals. The team focuses on resolving and correcting publication ethics issues as well as proactively working to prevent these issues from occurring on Sage journals.
Our proactive approach ensures the integrity of the scholarly record by addressing potential issues before they escalate. We collaborate with various departments and participate in industry initiatives to tackle challenges such as paper mills and AI misuse.

Could you be our new Research Integrity Manager? Are you?

  • A research integrity expert with excellent understanding of research, publication ethics and be familiar with industry best practices in these areas.
  • An experienced manager who knows how to develop people and processes within publishing.
  • Proficient at managing multiple expectations from diverse stakeholders
  • Experienced in navigating complex ethical issues and managing time-sensitive situations with confidence, discretion and good judgement.
  • A strong and collaborative communicator, with robust problem solving skills
Responsibilities

The Research Integrity Manager is responsible for leading the successful resolution of publication ethics cases by managing a team of research integrity staff. The role works globally and across multiple departments to ensure publication ethics cases at Sage are resolved in line with Sage policies and industry best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Associate Director, Research Integrity, to implement and embed SAGE’s policies, processes, internal and external resources around research, pre-publication and post-publication ethics
  • Supervise the investigation of authors, reviewers or editors where publication misconduct is suspected/identified; communicate with external (occasionally adversarial) parties, including research institutions where required.
  • Successfully guide the team in achieving SAGE’s goal to maintain our reputation as a high quality ethical publisher.
  • Provide regular reporting on cases and trends to the Associate Director, Research Integrity and other senior leads and identify tactical ways to reduce the risk of problems arising in the first place or enable more efficient resolution of problems.
  • Effectively collaborate with Editorial, Peer Review and Production teams to ensure research integrity breaches are adequately understood, escalated and resolved.
  • Create resources and training to ensure high level of research integrity expertise within the research integrity team, including staying up to date on evolving areas of publishing ethics breaches and international research practices.
  • Lead on the management of complex ethics cases arising on Sage journals: review submitted or published articles flagged as having potential ethical problems and create solutions to these problems.
  • Act as the point of escalation for the most complex and sensitive cases
  • Participate in industry projects and working groups; be an ambassador for Sage’s research integrity work externally.
