Description

The University of Greenwich is a diverse and inclusive institution that transforms lives through excellent teaching and research. The Faculty of Engineering and Science is based across our Greenwich and Medway campuses, and delivers world-class research with impact in science, engineering, and technology. Our faculty is home to vibrant research groups, specialist institutes, and extensive engagement with industry, enterprise, and external stakeholders.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Research Operations Manager to provide leadership and oversight of research and knowledge exchange (R&KE) support services across the Faculty. This is a pivotal role, responsible for ensuring high-quality and compliant support across the full research lifecycle—from pre-award development and funding applications to post-award project delivery and impact reporting. The role also plays a critical part in improving financial oversight, including budget tracking, salary alignment, and contract compliance.
Working closely with the Associate Dean (R&KE), Head of Business Operations, and the Greenwich Doctoral College, the postholder will also support postgraduate research provision, researcher development, and contribute to institutional priorities such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF).
A key priority for the role is leading the development of a faculty-wide consultancy and CPD programme, ensuring robust processes and professional support for external engagement, short courses, and industry-facing activity. The postholder will also lead initiatives to streamline research-related operations, including risk assessments, travel approvals, and external funding submissions.
This is a highly collaborative and visible role, managing a team of research support professionals and acting as the primary point of contact for all research operations within the faculty. You will be expected to provide expert guidance to academic staff, support continuous improvement, and represent the faculty on university-wide committees and external networks.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact the Faculty Operating Officer at N.Kassem@Greenwich.ac.uk
