JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Projects Manager will be responsible for the overall management of a three-year $2M Alliance grant. The project is focused on High-performance path rich networks for large scale computing systems. The project is software-focused with work on systems software libraries and composable data centre infrastructure.
The incumbent will manage the implementation of the project including the overall project plan and activities, budget management, financial accountability, reporting, events and meeting coordinator, and communications. The Research Project Manager will contribute to the completion of project deliverables and ensure effective communication across the research team and stakeholders. The incumbent will be expected to track project deliverables and software development and research progress through version management software (git) ensuring that required reviews are completed by the assigned technical personnel and appropriate remediations to concerns brought up in review are conducted promptly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelors Degree with preferred certification or a Masters in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of (5) years relevant experience in a high-level coordination of complex research projects.
  • Certified PMP or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise/proficiency with managing projects, budgets, reporting and policy compliance.
  • Knowledge of university structure, policies and procedures is considered an asset.
  • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain and monitor a detailed project management timeline and task set, work with the PI to set priorities and project objectives.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of the project performance management plan and key performance indicators, including preparing regular performance reports and progress reports as needed for funders and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the development of project communication activities including website maintenance, newsletters and social media, assist with developing project presentations and publications.
  • Support the PI in meetings providing briefings to other PIs, industry partners and stakeholders regarding the deliverables of the project, contributing to the development and implementation of a project deliverables.
  • Maintain lists of publications, deadlines for publications, coordination with copy-editor on priorities for paper review and submission approvals from PIs.
  • Manage and track loaned equipment from industry partners, and complete equipment purchasing coordinator with the ECE department purchasing personnel.
  • Develop the project budget and be responsible for monitoring and reporting, as per funder/institution guidelines. Prepare and develop the projects financial statements to for PI.
  • Establish performance standards, review and evaluate performance and contribute to conducting formal performance reviews on an ongoing basis.
  • Track completion of mandatory employee training and escalate non-compliance to P.I if required.
  • Provide guidance and advice to the PI regarding the effectiveness of the design and implementation of research strategy.
  • Manage the hiring process for all incoming employees to the research project, including selection and training.
  • Work closely with the lead organizations, Rockport Networks, Mitacs and NSERC to support the development and implementation of project deliverables.
  • Oversees the data collection required for evaluation of key metrics and synthesizes data, complies data into reports, databases, manuscripts, and presentation tools.
  • Support and participate in human resources short and long-term planning. Responsible for Arrange and coordinate schedules for HQP meetings with postdocs and PIs, track approved vacation time for project staff, travel tracking and policy compliance.
  • Manage and identify lab presence at major conferences that would be beneficial to the research project.
  • Identify, recommend, and draft applications for funding opportunities that are within the scope of the research project’s activities.
  • Undertake other duties as delegated in support of the successful conduct of the research project.
