SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Technical Duties
a)Develop and lead research projects from proposal development to project completion; based on chemical disinfection and advanced process control systems in wastewater technologies
b)Design and optimize performic- and peracetic-acid systems for municipal and industrial wastewater.
c)Executing pilot scale scientific experiments- Controls and operates advanced process control systems for all unit operations for each research project.
d)Mentor students on applied research activities and assign work and oversee the students;
e)Conduct research activities including literature review, data analysis, and experimentation in collaboration with researchers and industry partners in the area of water and wastewater
f)Lead laboratory analysis and design of experiments for research projects: design, implementation, installation, calibration & documentation
g)Provide consultancy support to partners, industry representatives for development of new projects
h)Help to prepare technical reports, editing/modifying existing SOP’s and presentation for research partners
i)Work with researchers to design and develop work plans and coordinate time lines for project completion
j)Attend meetings with research teams and industry partners to update activities
j)Help the supervisor with coordination of research student’s activities
k)Help with selection, installation and implementation of various laboratory equipment and installation.
l)Maintaining equipment and instrumentation in lab in terms of regular maintenance repairs: Scheduling regular maintenance & Keeping usage logs for equipment
m)Keeping up with overall lab maintenance consumables: Ordering auxiliary equipment; Gas and liquid ordering; General lab materials, gloves, glasses etc.
n)Ensure that the projects comply with health and safety regulations, College policies, WHMIS, and chemical storage and handling
o)Ensure that quality standards are maintained
p)Oversee hazardous materials research projects; advises research technicians and students on the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
q)Maintain records such as hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and associated documents.
Administration Duties
a)Work with research office on development of research projects and funding agency applications.
b)Work with the supervisor and Applied Research and Innovation Office to prepare purchase orders
c)Liaising with research partners, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities for purchasing as well as executing required tasks
d)Work with supervisor and Applied Research and Innovation Office for project management within cost and time constrained environments.
e)Work with Supervisor to develop task list for research students
f)Support the Research Lead in collaboration with Applied Research Outreach Coordinator to prepare content for promotional literature such as website content, brochures or flyers and coordinates printing and distribution
g)Help with tours to future partners, major contributors and guests.
