We are seeking a passionate and innovative Research Scientist with a focus on Chemistry to join our dynamic team. This role is centered on the chemistry of alcoholic beverages and raw materials, aiming to provide exceptional technical innovations and advanced analytical capabilities to our business. By conducting research and executing chemistry strategies, you will directly contribute to enhancing grape growing and winemaking practices and processes.
In this role, you will actively investigate the connections between alcoholic beverages and sensory attributes, developing essential techniques and analytical methods to quantify key raw material metrics related to product quality and consumer acceptance. You will independently conduct research, develop analytical methodologies, collect data, analyze and interpret results, and write technical reports tailored for customer needs. Your ability to apply technology and innovation will be pivotal in improving commercial processes and wine quality.
You will manage and execute strategically aligned chemistry research projects, identifying opportunities to develop and apply new scientific technologies. Collaboration is key, as you will identify and implement collaborative opportunities that strengthen our competitive edge. You will also participate in cross-functional and interdepartmental teams to achieve project goals, maintaining laboratory research notebooks to regulatory and legal standards, and ensuring a safe laboratory work environment.
Your role will involve presenting research findings to a diverse audience, including upper management, scientists, and non-scientists. You will take a leadership role in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and supervising chemical analysis platforms during harvest. Additionally, you will contribute to the budgeting process, continuously improve your technical skills, and stay current with the latest scientific literature to enhance wine value and quality.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Biochemical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering plus 2 years of Chemistry research experience; OR Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Biochemical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, plus 4 years of chemistry research experience; OR Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Biochemical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, plus 6 years of chemistry research experience.
  • Required to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to possess specific vision abilities (color vision).
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. Compensation:

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $100,600 - $151,000 / year
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
