Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is looking for a Research Scientist/Principal Research Scientist to join our team. This position will be supporting the Propulsions Systems Division at our facility located in Promontory, UT.

POSITION SUMMARY:

R&D scientist needed to support development, scale-up, manufacture and test activities of propellants and explosives at Promontory facilities. This individual will be expected to interface with management and customers on proposals, program status and technical accomplishments.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent chemical laboratory technique
  • Understanding of synthetic design principles
  • Understanding of analytical chemical testing
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture
  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Specialized skills may be considered in lieu of experience. Energetic expertise in the following is a plus:

  • Experience in Chemical Synthesis
  • Polymer chemistry and decomposition reaction mechanisms
  • Manufacturing process control and methodologies
  • Facility and process design
  • Experience in handling and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Experience with chemical compatibility
  • Ability to write and publish scientific papers
