Description

The Research Scientist will lead or contribute to independent and collaborative research within the Observational Cosmology group in the Department of Physics. The role involves analyzing data obtained by cosmological surveys such as DESI, Euclid, Roman and others, developing new methods and algorithms, supporting other group members in particular graduate students, and contributing to the scientific mission of the department through publication, mentorship, and active participation in collaborative research activities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Doctoral degree in Physics or a closely related field (e.g., Astronomy).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Three or more years of experience carrying out a vigorous program of independent research in cosmology.
  • Demonstrated productivity beyond that of a postdoctoral fellow.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations to scientific conferences.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research.
  • Strong technical expertise in large scale data analysis, statistical and simulation tools, machine learning, AI and GPU programming.
  • Experience with one more of these scientific collaborations: DESI, Euclid, Roman
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience mentoring students or junior researchers.
  • Familiarity with proposal writing and securing research funding.
