As a Research Scientist your main responsibility is to contribute to new and improved products developed within the framework of Cepheid’s development plans. You are expected to be able to individually plan, perform and analyse experiments and thereby contribute to generating information in one or several of the ongoing product development projects. This includes mainly practical work in the laboratory in addition to planning and analyzing experiments.
To be successful in this role it requires that you can, with a moderate level of guidance and direction, gain the knowledge needed to plan, perform and analyse experiments. You are also expected to contribute intellectually within your own discipline and be able to provide informal guidance to new team members. We expect you to be organized and paying attention to details when performing experiments. You should be a team player with good communication skills.
In addition to work within the projects you are expected to contribute with your competence to other activities within the department which may include planning, coordination and performing common tasks, suggesting improvements, reporting deviations, and by other means actively contributing to the fulfillment of goals within the project, department and company.
All tasks should be performed with high quality and within timelines.
This position is part of the Assay R&D team and will be in Solna, Sweden. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

THE ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB INCLUDE:

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology) with 2+ years of related work experience OR
• Master’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology) with 0-2 years of related work experience.
• Knowledge of molecular biology methods such as PCR and real-time PCR, experimental design, data analysis and statistical techniques
• Ability to individually plan, perform and analyze experiments
• Good ability to structure, organize and prioritize lab work and to maintain detailed experimental records

IT WOULD BE A PLUS IF YOU ALSO POSSESS PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN:

• Experience from IVD product development under design control is a great advantage for this position.

• Evaluate, test, and optimize real time PCR and RT-PCR assay procedures and assay prototypes based on design of experiments and design input requirements.
• Deliver experimental plans, perform and analyse experiments and report the deliveries.
• Actively contribute to achievement of goals in the project, department and company.
• Take part in sophisticated analytical problem-solving to reagent and system integration issues to identify critical performance factors for assay development
• Work in a team environment
• Analyze data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel, Minitab or JMP
• Work in a BSL3 environment
