Description:

We are seeking a Research Software Engineer to be part of Professor Deirdre Hollingsworth’s group at the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, University of Oxford.
Professor Hollingsworth’s group is a world leader in the development of statistical, mathematical, and computational models that inform disease dynamics and the translation of outputs to national and global health policy.
You will contribute to the maintenance and development of the software used by the groups and the consortium including supporting uptake of the software by international researchers in low- and middle-income countries. You will provide consulting and training on good practises in research software development and reproducible research. You will be responsible for collaborating with the researchers and consultants’ team on software projects providing not only technical expertise but specilaist domain knowledge to individual projects. You will design and implement high quality, reliable and maintainable software that will lead to specific research outcomes and enable the translational impact of existing research.
It is essential that you hold a degree in a relevant subject and a post-graduate degree in Biostatistics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Mathematical Biology or a related subject. You will have the knowledge of and commitment to software development best practices including issue tracking, testing, documentation, version control and continuous integration. You will also have excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with researchers, write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the group at meetings.
