Research Specialist, CITRIC Centre for Patient Safety Introduction: The Clinical and Translational Research Incubator (CITRIC) at the Medical College, Aga Khan University, has been established to transform research by creating a centralized space to incubate clinical and translational research projects, enabling them to become large extramurally funded programs with significant national and international impact. The projects at CITRIC will significantly affect the populations that AKU serves, be of the highest peer-reviewed reproducible quality, provide access to research resources, and be contextually aligned with local needs. CITRIC also houses the Dean’s Clinical Research Fellowship (DCRF) program and various research centers, including but not limited to the Centre for Trauma and Emergencies, Centre for Patient Safety, and Centre for Global Surgical Care. The Centre for Patient Safety (CPS), CITRIC in the Medical College, is a multi-disciplinary research, teaching, learning, and advocacy Centre with a mandate to investigate the conditions affecting patient care and promote systemic patient safety, identify medical errors, and help develop and implement strategies to prevent patient harm in developing countries. Job Role / Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Manager, CPS, you will be responsible to: Assist the research team at the Centre in piloting, testing, and refining research tools Coordinate communication between the research team at the Centre and other stakeholders for data collection Collect data from respondents by using a full range of qualitative and quantitative research techniques, including chart reviews Assist the CPS research team in writing reports Utilize Quality and Patient Safety resources for developing Patient Safety courses Plan, organize, and conduct patient safety courses in liaison with the CPS team Assist in analyzing quantitative and quantitative data, collating and analyzing complex data Summarise completed protocols and studies; write scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation Monitor the progress of research projects and coordinate information between various sections of the institution Monitor and collaborate research activities and ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of data collection activities Maintain data quality control, conducting data management and data analysis as per study objectives Assist in preparing manuscripts and abstracts for publications and presentations as required by investigators, administrators, and funding agencies. Assist in identifying grant opportunities and submission of grants Initiate new research projects, and plan and execute research studies. Eligibility Criteria / Requirements: You should have: A Bachelor’s degree in Medicine or Nursing from a recognized university. Master’s in Public Health/Master in Epi and Biostatistics or relevant areas A minimum of two to three years of related work and comparable experience at a reputable and relevant organization, experience in quality and patient safety will be preferred Understanding of evidence synthesis and systemic reviews The ability to demonstrate sound judgment in managing challenging and sensitive situations Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu Strong organizational, project management, planning, and problem-solving skills Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders Demonstrated interest in healthcare quality and patient safety would be an added advantage. Comprehensive reference checks will be conducted.
Responsibilities
The Research Specialist will assist the research team in piloting and refining research tools, coordinating communication for data collection, and analyzing data. They will also help in writing reports, developing patient safety courses, and monitoring research project progress.
