DESCRIPTION & DETAILS

Assist research scientist in all aspects of irrigated research including but are not limited to; variety evaluation trials, cropping systems studies, crop, soil, water, nutrient and pest management experiments. This includes planning and planting, irrigation scheduling, plot maintenance, weed control, sample collection, processing and laboratory analysis, data collection and processing, and repair and maintenance of field equipment. Support project leader in disseminating research results by participating in field days, tours, preparing reports and PowerPoint presentations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Plant Sciences, Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, Soil Sciences, Crop and Weed Sciences, Biology or a closely related field; or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in or the willingness and ability to learn field plot experiments, planting maintenance and harvest of experiments.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of lab equipment, field and irrigation equipment and machinery.
  • North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Science Degree in Plant Sciences, Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, Soil sciences, Crop and Weed Sciences, Biology or a closely related field.
  • Organizing meetings to identify and prioritize research on variety evaluation trials, cropping systems studies, and crop, water, nutrient and pest management experiments.
  • Experience with designing and planning field plot experiments, obtaining seed for experiments, assist in maintaining seed inventory, determine germination percentage and seed rate, and packaging seed appropriately.
  • Design field books, field tags, stakes and harvest tags
  • Implement field plot experiments; planting maintenance and harvest of experiments.
  • Insect control, disease and weed management, mowing and tilling and other crop production activities.
  • Data collection on diseases, plant physiology, soil, nutrients, crop and water quality.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of field and lab equipment.
  • Process harvested product, analyze and record of necessary data.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of field, irrigation and lab machinery and equipment.
  • North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with CDL endorsement or the ability to obtain one.
