Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011. The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions. IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA). IRB Barcelona seeks a Research Strategy Coordinator. Reporting to the Department Head of Competitive Funding Strategy and Scientific Management and in close contact with the Directorate Team. You will collaborate closely with key internal stakeholders to shape the institutional strategy. You will act as the nexus for institutional intelligence and strategic alignment. You will ensure coherence across the institution’s research and administrative functions, collecting, analyzing and integrating insights from different departments into a unified, actionable institutional strategy that enhances IRB Barcelona’s visibility. You will also represent IRB Barcelona’s strategic interests in specific national and international discussion. Key responsibilities Proactively coordinate and manage the flow of strategic inputs from the research community and administrative departments, monitoring and analyzing the global and national research policy, funding, and regulatory environment to anticipate changes and identify strategic opportunities or threats. Synthesize complex information from diverse internal and external sources into clear, concise, and compelling strategic documents and institutional roadmaps. Develop and oversee the implementation of new institutional initiatives policies and frameworks. Supervise the achievement of key performance indicators and prepare applications, high-level strategic reports, presentations, and communication materials for institutional strategic projects among others. You have: PhD in Life Sciences, or a closely related field, with research expertise relevant to IRB Barcelona’s vision and mission. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in international research management positions in biomedical research institutions. Proven understanding of research impact assessment in biomedical research organizations. Skills: Proficiency in English and Spanish. Excellent scientific editing skills in both English and Spanish. Demonstrated excellence in coordinating the application of complex scientific project applications. Management and Leadership You might also have Working knowledge of Catalan and other languages. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, ideally SAP Business One (SBO). Ability to interpret legal language, assess agreements and negotiate terms.
