The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Research Technician to join its Division of Biosciences. This is a grant funded full-time position. The Division of Biosciences is a multidisciplinary basic science unit committed to research and teaching in the broad area of biosciences. All faculty members within the Division are engaged in active research programs and are funded by a variety of organizations including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States, and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented person enthusiastic about basic science to join a team-based laboratory studying the molecular biology of dental and peripheral nervous system development. The Research Assistant will perform laboratory experiments and activities including: dissection, histology, molecular biology, cryostectioning, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, RNA and DNA isolation, traditional PCR, quantitative PCR, mouse handling and procedures, mouse colony maintenance, agarose gel electrophoresis and genotyping, cell culture, and computer-based data analysis. The Research Assistant will support and contribute to multiple projects in the laboratory setting, with opportunities to work with and train other lab members. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for placing orders and maintaining financial balances with basic software. Additionally, the Research Assistant will present collected data at weekly group lab meetings and in one-on-one meetings with the lab director and contribute figures and text to scientific posters and publications by laboratory members.
Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.
Compensation: $19.28 - $25.19/hour based on experience
Required Screenings: This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
Physical Requirements: The body must be able to bend, stoop and reach in order to perform many procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); equipment; and use of sharp instruments. Occasional work during evenings and weekends may be required
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate’s Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor’s Degree.
