Calian is actively seeking an Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineer (Junior or Intermediate) to support environmental research and fieldwork activities at the Royal Military College (RMC) in Kingston, Ontario.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking to hire a Junior or Intermediate Environmental Scientist/Engineer to join the Environmental Sciences Group (ESG), a multidisciplinary team conducting applied environmental research and field programs across Canada. The successful candidate will support technical activities such as site assessments, hydrogeological investigations, and risk assessment projects, contributing both in the field and from the office.
This position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) until March 31, 2026, with the possibility of annual renewal. Employment is provided by Calian through a publicly awarded contract with RMC.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, geology, toxicology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in environmental science or engineering, with knowledge in areas such as: Contaminated site assessments, Environmental monitoring, Ecological and/or human health risk assessment and Hydrogeology and/or environmental modelling

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), environmental monitoring, or risk assessment programs
  • Experience with hydrogeological data collection and analysis, groundwater or surface water modeling
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial environmental quality guidelines
  • Understanding of field-testing techniques including borehole installation, monitoring well installation, or high-resolution tools (e.g., UVOST, MIP)
  • French language skills (spoken and/or written)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; knowledge of other Office applications and relational databases is an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing technical reports
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in diverse team environments
  • Eligible to obtain Government of Canada Security Clearance (Reliability level)
Responsibilities
  • Designing and executing environmental projects such as site assessments, borehole logging, and the installation of monitoring wells
  • Conducting groundwater and soil sampling, environmental surveys, and risk assessments
  • Analyzing environmental and technical data, preparing high-quality technical reports and presentations
  • Performing desktop tasks including planning, data management, and post-field processing
  • Conducting short-term fieldwork (1–2 weeks) in various regions of Canada, including remote locations
  • Adhering to health and safety protocols in both field and office environments
  • Participating in meetings with sponsors and stakeholders virtually or in-person
  • Other duties as assigned
