Description

The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to join our Research team. This is an exciting opportunity for a statistics-savvy professional who is passionate about producing reliable, valid, and accessible data to support excellence in correctional practices. As a Research Technician, you’ll work in a team-oriented environment to help shape the way data inform policy, operations, and innovation across our agency.
You’ll work directly with the Research Director to organize, streamline, and visualize the wide array of data collected from departments across the Sheriff’s Office. Your work will help ensure that stakeholders, from correctional staff to community partners, have access to data that is accurate, digestible, and meaningful.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Doctoral or Master’s Degree in social sciences, statistics, education, or research, with an emphasis on applied research methodology and statistics. Bachelor’s degree with three or more years full-time experience working in data management in criminal justice or related field may be substituted for graduate level education.
  • Proven knowledge of statistics including basic descriptive statistical measures (e.g. frequency distributions and measures of central tendency).
  • Strong knowledge of research methodologies and techniques utilized in corrections.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access to include data retrieval, cleaning and visualization.
  • Experience with statistical programs including Stata, R, and/or SPSS, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience in writing reports, collecting data, and assisting with empirical studies preferred.
  • Ability to complete multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining comprehensive and cohesive records.
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others in a team-oriented work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and receptiveness to receiving feedback.
  • Known and accessible phone number.
  • Must possess valid Driver’s License.
The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is not your average law enforcement agency.
Behind the walls of our facilities in Western Massachusetts, our firm but fair approach to corrections has been emulated across the country and changed countless lives for the better. We provide empathy and opportunity to all who come under our care and custody with the aim of uplifting individuals and their families.
Our Sheriff’s Office manages four facilities including two in Ludlow, one in Chicopee and one in Springfield. In the community, Sheriff Nick Cocchi’s “never say no” attitude has evolved the field of community policing, bridging the divide between residents and unmet needs in our neighborhoods. You’ll find our dedicated staff in the parks, on the waterways, in our schools and on the streets to be a positive, proactive partner for the public good.
If you want to help make the world a better place, consider joining our team
