POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a part-time Research Technician (50% FTE) to support laboratory-based research in neuroimmunology. The position is limited to 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on funding and project needs.
The primary responsibility will be the processing of biological samples, in particular the isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Training can be provided for this technique. Additional work will involve basic molecular biology methods such as PCR, preparation of biological samples and general laboratory support.
The successful candidate will work closely with the principal investigator and senior laboratory members to carry out experiments, maintain laboratory records, and assist in data collection and analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS

College diploma with 3 years of related experience, or Bachelor of Science with 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic laboratory skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, or immunology.
Familiarity with PBMC isolation or willingness to learn.
Experience with PCR is an asset.
Comfort working with biological samples and, if applicable, with laboratory animals (rodents and fish).
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, data entry).

Responsibilities

LABORATORY TASKS (APPROX. 80% OF WORK TIME):

Isolate PBMCs and prepare samples for downstream analyses (training provided).
Prepare and process other biological samples.
Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including PCR and related assays.
Assist in setting up and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.
Participate in routine data collection, data entry, and preliminary analysis.
Adhere to biosafety protocols.

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS (APPROX. 20% OF WORK TIME):

Maintain laboratory records, inventories, and logs.
Assist with ordering and organizing supplies.
Support preparation of documents such as standard operating procedures.
