JOB SUMMARY

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
The Madabhushi lab is seeking a motivated research assistant to help with a project that attempts to understand the health impact of long-term exposure of individuals to heated oil fumes on aircrafts. Examples of proposed experiments in the project include assessments of steady-state levels of oxidative damage to DNA, activity of signaling pathways related to cellular metabolism, and gene expression profiling of blood cells of exposed individuals relative to controls. Tasks will include culturing and handling cell lines and primary neurons, molecular biology, biochemical, and next-generation sequencing experiments. Prior experience in these techniques is not required but is preferred. Applications from individuals with experience in computational analysis and statistical methods, and animal work that are willing to execute the above experiments are especially encouraged. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate effectively, and organize and handle multiple experiments is required.
Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a closely related field.

Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
Assists in collection of data for project reports.
Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
