JOB SUMMARY

The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) is seeking a Laboratory Instructor / Research Technician to support instructional and research activities in IMS cleanrooms and affiliated research laboratories. This position involves leading hands-on lab sessions for various College of Engineering courses, maintaining laboratory operations, and supporting research initiatives.
We are looking for candidates with a passion for education, strong technical skills, and a commitment to safety and organization in a laboratory environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor¿s degree in engineering, applied sciences, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Academic cleanroom experience.
  • Background in chemical safety and equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with lab maintenance and safety protocols.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in lab procedures and safety practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competency in computer applications, including basic PC operations and data management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with microfabrication processes such as thermal oxidation, photolithography, thin film deposition, etching, metallization, and metrology.· Basic understanding of microelectronic circuits (diodes, transistors, CMOS, logic circuits).
  • Prior experience as a teaching assistant or lab instructor.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver clear, thorough instruction on lab safety, protocols, and experimental procedures to students.
  • Supervise students and teaching assistants during lab activities to ensure compliance with safety and procedural standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Monitor and perform routine maintenance on lab equipment to ensure functionality and longevity.
  • Assist in developing and implementing lab policies and operational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of lab usage, incidents, and equipment status.
  • Report regularly to the IMS lab supervisor and maintain open communication on lab-related matters.
  • Support general research lab activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
