Job Description The Core Organic MS Metrology team develops reference methodology and delivers high accuracy calibration and measurement services in support of LGC’s role as the UK’s National Measurement Laboratory (NML) and Designated Institute for Chemical and Bio-analytical measurements. In addition, the team undertakes contract research and development projects and delivers specialist measurement services for a range of customers in both the public and private sectors. A range of available technologies are utilised within the team, including single and triple quadrupole MS, High Resolution MS (QToF, Orbitrap and IMS) all with associated separation capabilities including HPLC, microflow-HPLC and GC. As a researcher you will gain experience in a range of analytical techniques and develop the skills to perform accurate quantification and structural characterisation of organic compounds to support the metrology research projects and measurement services delivered by the organic MS metrology team. Key Duties Develop and validate for GCMS and LCMSMS methods for the identification of organic species in a range of applications (including environmental, clinical and security) Develop and validate reference methodology for the accurate quantification of organic compounds to support Metrology Programme delivery as well as commercial work Provide cross team support by performing maintenance and optimisation of analytical instrumentation, as well as troubleshooting instrument issues Disseminate results at internal and external meetings and contribute to writing of peer reviewed papers Qualifications Person specification PhD (or equivalent experience) with a focus on analytical chemistry Innovative scientist with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of mass spectrometry and separation techniques Experience in the operation and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation Method validation experience and familiarity with QQQ and HRMS instruments Ability to contribute to the delivery of projects to timescale and budget Good interpersonal skills and a team player Good oral and writing skills Work Arrangement: On-site Department: Scientific / Technical Science
