Short description of the position:
Eurac Research is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a researcher in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) applications for PV. The successful candidate will work on the development and testing of novel applications of AI in the operation and maintenance of PV systems. These applications aim to combine data from (automated) visual PV field inspection, PV system performance data, solar irradiance and other weather data in sophisticated tools using computer vision and data science, with the aim to enable automated and optimised workflows in PV O&M. The researcher will work on different local and European projects and will be able to collaborate with prominent companies from the field of PV system design, development, and operation and maintenance.

Tasks:

  • Development and deployment of different types of AI-based solutions including large language models in automated O&M workflows.
  • Use computer vision / image recognition and data science techniques to transform imagery from PV field inspection into actionable quantitative data.
  • Develop and implement new methods for PV performance monitoring and fault detection using advanced data science techniques and AI.
  • Process and analyse large datasets of performance of PV systems and sensors installed in outdoor environments.
  • Write technical reports, scientific publications and contribute to project deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in AI, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • PhD is not required but is a plus.
  • Experience with research on the PV system level is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in data science.
  • Fluent in English. Knowledge of Italian and German is not required, but is a plus.
