The Processing Technologies Group works with industry and government to develop, test and deploy new technologies and processes that will help build commerce in Alberta while reducing environmental impacts. Our Industrial Sensor Technologies team, with operations in Edmonton, provides specialized facilities and expertise in applied spectroscopy and instrumentation engineering supporting the development and deployment of measurement systems to industry.
Reporting to Team Lead, Industrial Sensor Technologies, the incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Electrical engineering and electronic design related to Industrial analyser development
- Software and firmware development
- Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, deep learning, machine vision
- Project management and project execution supporting various instrument development projects
- Occasional field support
- Providing engineering support for field technicians working on deployed instrumentation
- Engaging stakeholders for new projects and initiatives
- Data analysis
- Report writing
- Business development and proposal writing
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- P.Eng designation
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience
o Experience in electronics design and troubleshooting
o Experience with CSA / IEC standards including Hazardous Locations and Intrinsically Safe electronics.
o Experience in developing robust Windows applications using C# with .NET framework for industrial instrumentation
o Understanding of Modbus industrial protocol over Ethernet and RS485
o Field experience troubleshooting equipment in industrial environments
o Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
o Embedded microcontroller firmware development experience
o Experience with AutoCad, Solidworks 3D, Solidworks Electrical considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects including budgets, resources, timely delivery, and interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a challenging and changing environment
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in several different team environments
- Ability to supervise and train others as required
- Strong oral and written communications ability including developing high quality technical presentations and reports
