Description:

RESEARCHER

We are looking for a motivated Researcher to join our dynamic research team at our Research Hub in Berlin. This position, offered at 75% capacity, is ideal for individuals passionate about working with complex data and eager to contribute to innovative projects in macroeconomics and financial history.
The role focuses on creating, analyzing, and documenting long-term international macroeconomic and financial historical datasets. You will also work with advanced statistical methods to identify and handle structural breaks in time series data.
This is an exceptional opportunity for professionals with a background in economics, data analysis, or related fields who wish to gain valuable experience and contribute to high-impact research. As a Researcher, you will collaborate directly with Moritz Schularick, President of the Kiel Institute, on cutting-edge projects with global significance.

We are seeking candidates who meet the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in economics
  • Proven experience in developing, analyzing, and documenting long-term international macroeconomic and financial historical datasets.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods and tools for identifying and managing structural breaks in time series data.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and a commitment to high-quality research

The working language of our research team is English; therefore, proficiency in English is essential. While not mandatory, knowledge of German is a plus. The position offers competitive compensation in line with the German public sector pay scale (grade EG 13 TV-L). The initial contract will be for a period until August 2026, with a planned start in the beginning of 2025.
The Kiel Institute is an equal opportunity employer with a certified family-friendly policy. We promote the professional opportunities of women and strongly encourage them to apply. Women with equivalent qualifications, competence, and expertise will be given preference. We are committed to employing persons with recognized disabilities and will therefore give them preference over persons without disabilities if they are equally qualified. We welcome all applications, regardless of nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, age and sexual orientation.
Please submit your application online, using your family name as the file name, including a letter of interest, your CV, academic transcripts, a writing sample (e.g. a Master thesis), as well as proofs of relevant work experience (ID-No. “0125PräsResearcher01”). The deadline for applications is the 14th of February 2025 Application photos should not be included.
For additional information, please contact Prof. Moritz Schularick.
