JOB SUMMARY

To provide direct assistance to the Program Director in coordinating all aspects of the General Surgery Residency Program as needed, including facilitating and streamlining procedures for the residents and staff. Must exercise judgment in decisions regarding priorities and establishing efficient work practices. Manage and support program personnel through administrative support and maintain departmental databases, records, files and compilation of reports. Also manages residency program meal coordination, supply orders, travel, and reimbursements. Coordinate department CME events, enter on-call schedule, assist with residency interviews and graduation, coordinate rural health initiative for general surgery, and provide cross coverage within the residency program.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year educational program or similar experience.
OR
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years professional or administrative experience to include minimum of two years educational program experience or similar experience.
OR
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization and seven years of progressively responsible experience in administrative support positions to include a minimum of four years of educational program experience or similar experience.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Experience with UME/GME programs.

ABILITIES

Organizational and communication skills
Knowledgeable in MS Office and good telephone etiquette
Ability to learn PeopleSoft, multi-task and work independently
Excellent customer service and time management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the ACGME, program goals, standards, policies and procedures which include some familiarity of other departments within the college.

SKILLS

Strong interpersonal skills. Sensitive to the interrelationships of both people and functions within the department.
