Position Purpose and Summary
The Resident Director resides on campus and is responsible for facilitating a community environment that assists in achieving the desired learning outcomes of the university. This includes developing and implementing programming in TWU’s residence halls and providing and supporting services for residents.

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Proactively facilitate learning and development for respective residents. Specifically, create opportunities for students to grow in their awareness of what it means to be a member of the TWU community as outlined in the TWU Student Code of Conduct and other governing policies.
  • Provide leadership for the respective residence community while working in partnership with the larger Residence Life team to achieve community-building goals and learning outcomes across campus. This includes facilitating the following:
  • The development of supportive, encouraging, and transformational relationships among residents.
  • The transition of new students to living on campus.
  • The fulfillment of TWU’s mission to develop all students as godly Christian leaders.
  • An atmosphere in the residence that is conducive to academic learning, spiritual growth, community membership and holistic student development.
  • Plan and carry out appropriate group and individual selection, training, supervision, and leadership for assigned student leaders, including but not limited to:
  • Large group training sessions for assigned student leaders during the annual Student Leader Orientation Week.
  • Weekly team meetings that equip, develop, and encourage assigned student leaders.
  • Regular 1on1 and small group meetings with assigned student leaders.
  • Participate and lead Res Life workshops.
  • Evaluations of student leaders and their communities annually.
  • Team building activities for student leaders, including an annual retreat and reorientation
  • Student leader applicant interviews and selection processes
  • Remain current on university policies and proactively educate students regarding relevant policies, including the TWU Student Code of Conduct, Bullying and Harassment Policy, Sexualized Violence Policy and other governing policies. Participate in the Student Code of Conduct process as a Conduct Officer as needed.
  • Assist in managing residence hall general operations, check-in and check-out procedures. Network with maintenance and custodial departments as necessary. Encourage a culture of ownership among all students—management of lounge spaces.
  • Provide support and resources for students in crisis. This includes fulfilling a regular portion of the 24/7 emergency “on-call” schedule with other RDs always to ensure adequate campus coverage.
  • Respond to various complaints and needs of students and parents with the building and community needs in a timely and professional manner. Respond to conflict and practice mediation when necessary.
  • Facilitate relevant programming with student leaders to enrich student learning and development, social interactions, and spiritual life and foster a safe learning environment.
  • Manage a budget for the Resident Hall programming, hosting, and training. Budgets run from August through April.

STANDARDS & REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Master’s degree in student Personnel, Theology, Counselling, Ministry, or Higher Education preferred.
Experience: Previous work with residence life programs, university students, youth ministry, and/or involvement in student leadership required.
