Responsibilities

As a Resident Doctor in PICU, you’ll play a key role in delivering intensive care to critically ill children, from very small to 18 years and the conditions vary, complex medical conditions to post-surgical care.
You’ll be working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, managing high-acuity patients. Typically dealing with complex medical (requiring NIV to full ventilation (neurology - seizures, dystonia) to surgery including complex orthopaedics, complex urology, spinal, congenital cardiac (with a Cardiothoracic cover).

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting ward rounds and assisting in patient management in our 9-bed PICU and 5-bed HDU.
  • Being part of the Paediatric Emergency Response Team, handling emergency interventions such as airway management, intubation, and chest drains.
  • Collaborating with two PICU consultant teams—Surgical and Medical—ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients.
  • Managing pre- and post-operative care in collaboration with Cardiac Surgical teams.
  • Engaging in ongoing learning through case discussions, audits, and quality initiatives.
