Description

PROVIDES SECURITY TO PERSONS AND PROPERTY:

  • Monitors all visitors to the centre to ensure that no resident or staff is placed at risk.
  • In emergency situations (injury, violence, fire) contacts proper responders (RCMP, EMS or Fire department).
  • Has ability to provide a sense of security and ensure safety measures are met.
  • Screens and assesses telephone calls by identifying and prioritizing problems and make decisions according to community resources to promptly make referrals to appropriate resources/supports.
  • To have efficient documentation/logging skill and adhere to policy and procedures.
  • Ensures the personal property of residents is kept safely and returned upon discharge.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Counselling diploma is an asset; relevant and sufficient experience in counselling; Grade 12 Diploma,
  • ASIST is an asset, or experience in working with vulnerable or at risk people.
  • Awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to family violence and domestic abuse.
  • Reliable and willing to take shifts when necessary.
  • Good computer skills,
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality and working in an area that deals with sensitive information on a daily basis, with good communication skills and that ability to handle difficult conversations,
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision, ability to work under stress situations and dealing with Crisis calls.
  • Valid Drivers Licence,
  • Willing to work evenings, weekend and night shifts.
  • Must submit a criminal record check, child abuse registry check and drug testing as per FRCN By-law 2004-01, sec. 8.01); To work in an environment that must be welcoming, supportive and secure those who are seeking shelter and Healing.

Responsibilities
  • To ultimately relieve our full time residents, support workers and mend the 24/7 crisis line.
  • Orientation to residents to house procedures, rules and policies. Helping residents adapt to the daily living routine.
  • Maintains an awareness of all resident’s current situation and circumstances, including their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual state, through communication and consultation with council ling staff at shift change.
  • On Admission, acess the immediate needs and medical needs of the resident and her children, and when necessary make referral services.
  • To ensure that residents needs are communicated to other RSW, continuity of service plan delivery.
  • Provide competent care of children’s physical and emotional needs in mother’s absence.
  • To ensure the centre is kept clean and tidy during shift; ensure residents are up keeping with their chores and mentors residents by helping them cook and clean.
  • Administration duties; to answer phones, fax, email and ensure efficient communication on behalf of the centre.
  • Reads daily log entries when coming into shift and completes incident reports and monthly reports.
