Our ideal residential advisor candidates have a passion and are committed to the achievement and success of children that are in their care. They enjoy supervising, mentoring, guiding, and engaging with children outside of the classroom. Essential Expectations of Girard College Residential Advisors Include but Are Not Limited to: Continuously monitor an assigned building/students and log hourly student headcounts and activity into the electronic system. Provide an accessible, supportive, and nurturing living environment for the students. Be accessible to students for personal and emergency situations. Lead, instruct and facilitate the “Morning Life Skills” curriculum. Wake students and supervise them while they get ready for school. Accompany students to breakfast and supervise them while they eat. Enforce rules, policies and procedures governing good student conduct. Accompany and/or drive students off campus in an emergency situation. Serve as a role model for the students. Perform other duties as required. Desired Residential Advisor Characteristics: Strong student management skills. High level of personal organization and planning. Team player: maturity, humility, grit, flexible, follow-through, sense of humor, open to feedback and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude. Strong belief in the Girard College mission and its core values Mastery of and enthusiasm for a growth mindset towards personal/professional growth and student outcomes Qualifications Education, Skill and Ability Requirements: Previous child-care experience or supervision of children required. A minimum high school diploma required, some earned credits or completed college degree preferred. Ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent verbal communication skills Computer literate Valid driver’s license Physical Requirements: Extensive walking, climbing stairs (up to four flights), standing, and sitting for long periods. Reaching, stretching, bending, stooping and other physical efforts required carrying up to 20 pounds. Manipulating buttons, zippers, shoelaces, etc. requires fine motor skills to assist student’s dress. Responding quickly in emergencies. Requires fast walking and traversing stairs quickly. The ability to get in and out of a van or school bus as well as the ability to drive a van. Schedule: Sunday night-Friday morning during overnight hours between 11pm-7am (hours may vary slightly)
Responsibilities
Residential Advisors are responsible for monitoring students, providing a supportive living environment, and supervising students during morning routines. They also enforce rules and serve as role models for the students.
