Description CALVARY WOMEN’S SERVICES MISSION: Calvary Women’s Services offers housing, health, education, and employment programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC, to transform their lives. JOB SUMMARY: The Residential Assistant is an essential member of the operations team. Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Residential Assistant ensures a safe, respectful environment for women living in Calvary’s housing programs. The Residential Assistant provides program and operational support during assigned day, evening, or overnight shift. The Residential Assistant oversees the comings and goings of residents and staff, directs telephone calls & visitors to the appropriate persons, ensures the safety of residents, and assists residents on an ongoing basis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations Manage the facility operations and housing program during scheduled shifts Direct the work of Volunteer on duty, providing guidance and ensuring accountability; review daily work checklists to ensure all tasks have been completed Follow security measures to ensure accurate resident check in, check out, so staff is aware of who is in the building Provide front desk reception and answer incoming calls and handle inquiries occurring during scheduled shift and, as needed, directs calls to appropriate staff for follow-up. Communicate and implement heat advisory and hypothermia policies and procedures Ensure all residential activities are documented in a timely and thorough manner and ensure that client confidentiality is protected Enforce house rules and procedures; accurately reporting violations and writing disciplinary notices and incident reports as needed Respond appropriately to emergencies including contacting appropriate staff, law enforcement or fire and medical personnel, as necessary and in a timely manner. Assist in training new residential assistants. Resident Management and Assistance Manage and communicate daily residential program schedule, including making announcements of scheduled activities Follow medications protocol to ensure residents have access to their medication in a timely manner Provide guidance, assistance and support to the residents as needed Perform regular walk-throughs of program space throughout scheduled shift Oversee the completion of any chores during scheduled shift Perform bed checks and the enforcement of storage policies and log details Serve pre-made meal in the absence of the Chef or meal volunteers Manage resident crisis situations as needed Volunteer Program Ensure that volunteers feel welcome and have the resources and support they need to complete their volunteer tasks Communicate clearly with volunteers, particularly the meal and overnight volunteers, to ensure a successful experience on-site Coordinate with Sr. Manager of Community Engagement to orient and train new volunteers in program procedures as needed Administrative and Facility Management Conduct routine inspection of the entire facility and patio area to ensure the health, welfare and safety of residents and staff Prepare daily updates to logbooks and program documents, including attendance sheets, staff logbook and volunteer logbook Manage incoming mail for current residents and those who have exited the program, ensuring secure storage and distribution Maintain a clean and safe work area to include daily organization and cleaning of desktops, floor spaces, and other surfaces Troubleshoot and document basic facilities issues OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in staff meetings and other activities contributing to the effective, efficient operation of Calvary Women’s Services, as requested participate in required trainings Provide clear and consistent communications to residents and staff as needed Work cooperatively with other Calvary staff to promote a successful teamwork environment Respect professional and personal boundaries when working with residents Assist with administrative and cleaning tasks as needed Assist with deliveries as needed putting away supply etc. Be available to work other shifts as needed Other duties as assigned Requirements REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, knowledge of networking concepts would be a plus Ability to assess emergency situations and react accordingly by accessing appropriate medical/social systems Ability to prioritize tasks with strong organizational skills Proficient written and verbal communication skills Good problem solving skills Must be able to read and write English Ability to work in a team oriented environment EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED Prior experience in transitional housing, and working with victims of domestic violence, preferred WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS: Reliable transportation to and from work is required Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time Sites with specific scheduling needs: Reach Up: 1 overnight every Sunday and floaters for all other shifts as needed Good Hope Road: every other Saturday/Sunday 3pm-11pm & 11pm-7am New Foundations: floaters Mondays and Wednesdays 5pm-9pm; every other Friday 3pm-11pm
