Job Description: Child and Youth Worker
Location: Penticton

JOB SUMMARY

The Supportive Living Child and Youth Worker is required to provide care for Children & Youth with Special Needs in a Supportive Living setting and to be an integral part of the care team. The care team operates from a child-centred approach, providing a circle of support for the child, youth and/or family. As a member of the Care Team, the Supportive Living Child and Youth Worker ensures that participants’ physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A two year Diploma or Degree in Human/Social Service field
  • Minimum of two years recent related experience

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and skills in attachment and safe approaches with children and youth.
  • Knowledge and experience in successfully engaging in non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work effectively with children, parents and staff.
  • Good organization, time, and general management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and be able to provide support and direction as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Participates in the assessment, goal setting and progress evaluation of children/youth.
  • Teaches children/youth to relate in socially appropriate manner through use of daily routines and activities.
  • Monitors participants in a supportive living setting and ensures their safety and well-being.
  • Provides emotional support and crisis intervention to participants which may include non-violent physical interventions consistent with the behavior plan.
  • Ensures that participants’ physical needs are met by performing duties such as assisting with basic personal hygiene, toileting and preparing meals.
  • Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks, daily activities on participants.
  • Carries out household duties such as meal preparation and household cleaning.
  • Administers medications in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • Accompanies participants to appointments and community outings
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment. Maintain health records and administer first aid and medication as required. Observe and remove potential hazards.
  • Promote the optimal, social, physical, emotional, cognitive and cultural growth and development of each child/youth.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate programs that meet the observed needs of the children.
  • Promote cooperation with families and other service providers.
  • Maintain inclusive quality service environments that provide participants with respect, and value their choices and abilities.
  • Maintain program and facility security requirements.
  • Work effectively to help build solutions and solve problems.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Support and maintain all applicable CQI initiatives, accreditation standards, OneSky policies and procedures, and program procedures.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Participate in OneSky meetings and events as required, and contribute in positive ways to the Society’s plans, goals, activities, and image.
  • Support the mission, vision and values of OneSky.
  • Perform any related duties as assigned and/or required to maintain the operations and integrity of the program.
